Starfruit in Peru has two harvests that generally occur in two seasons of the year, the first harvest season begins in February and ends in April, and the second harvest season begins in August and ends in October. Usually both crops have a similar volume of fruit.19JunOrange Newsletter – June 2023

In Peru there are currently 74,776 hectares of citrus, of this total 38% corresponds to orange, that is, a total of 28,339 hectares. Of this total, the variety with the highest production in the country is “Valencia”. Likewise, among the prominent departments in the production of this variety are Junín, which occupies first place, representing 49% of the national total. The big passion fruit crop season of 2023 has presented several factors that have changed its projected course. The first factor was the start of the harvest one month later than usual. The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) announced the end of the crop season 2021- 2022 with the participation of 5,780 mango producers, who managed to export 241,556 tons to more than 32 international markets. Exports reached markets such as the European Union and the United States, as well as Korea, China and Japan.
